The Voice Practice Drill Pack

Your voice is the product on a sales call. Tonality outsells words by a wide margin — calm certainty closes, hesitation kills. This is the full transcript of the Voice Practice Drill Pack: 14 drills, a 5-point scorecard, and the daily routine top closers use to sound unmissable on every call.

The 5-point voice scorecard

Score every recorded rep on these five dimensions, 1-5. Anything 3 or below is your drill for tomorrow.

  • Pace — words per minute, controlled and varied (not rushed, not lazy).
  • Pause — at least one deliberate 2-second pause after every key sentence.
  • Pitch — drops at the end of statements (not up-talk), rises gently on questions.
  • Fillers — "um, like, you know, basically" count under 3 per minute.
  • Tone — calm certainty as the default; warmth on rapport, weight on price.

The 14 daily drills

Run two drills per day, 5 minutes each. Record yourself. Score yourself. Re-run the lowest-scoring drill the next morning.

  1. Cold open — same opener, ten different tones (curious, calm, confident, warm, urgent, playful, direct, low, slow, smiling).
  2. Pattern interrupt — "This is going to sound a little different…" with a 3-second pause before the ask.
  3. Permission-based opener — ask for 27 seconds, then deliver in exactly 27 seconds.
  4. Discovery question stack — 5 questions back-to-back without filler words.
  5. Price hold — say the price, then shut up for 5 full seconds. Count them.
  6. Takeaway — "Honestly, this might not be a fit for you" without sounding sarcastic.
  7. Trial close — "If we did X, would that solve it?" with a downward inflection.
  8. Reframe — turn three objections into one-sentence reframes.
  9. Voicemail — 22 seconds, name + reason + specific callback time.
  10. Mirror — repeat the prospect's last 3 words, with curiosity.
  11. Label — "It sounds like…" three times, on three different emotions.
  12. Bottom-line — answer one closed question with one sentence, then stop.
  13. Slow it down — read your script at half speed and add the pauses.
  14. Smile mic — record a 60-second pitch with a literal smile. Compare to neutral.

Your 10-minute morning routine

Two drills, five minutes each. One offensive (cold open, discovery, trial close), one defensive (price hold, takeaway, reframe). Score, log, repeat.

After 30 days you will sound like a different person on the phone — calmer, slower, harder to interrupt. That is the whole game.

Frequently asked questions

How long until voice drills change my close rate?

Most reps see a noticeable change in tonality inside two weeks of daily 10-minute practice. Close-rate impact usually shows by week 4-6 because deals take time to cycle through.

Do I need fancy equipment to practice?

No. Your phone's voice memo app is enough. The point is recording yourself, scoring honestly, and re-running the worst drill the next morning.

Should I practice from a script or freestyle?

Script first. Lock in pace, pause, and pitch on words you already know, then move to live freestyle once the mechanics are automatic.
