The Objection Sparring Playbook
Objections are not rejections — they are requests for more information delivered as resistance. This is the full transcript of the Objection Sparring Playbook: the 12 objections every closer must master, the 4-step framework that beats them, and a 3-round daily sparring routine you can run with a partner or with an AI buyer.
The 4-step framework
Use the same four moves on every objection. The framework is what makes you sound calm — not the rebuttal.
- Acknowledge — "Totally fair" / "I hear you" — without agreeing.
- Isolate — "Outside of [X], is there anything else holding you back?"
- Reframe — change the cost-of-X to the cost-of-not-X.
- Re-engage — ask one question that moves the deal forward by one square.
The 12 objections every closer must master
These are the rebuttals top reps drill until they're reflexive. Memorize the move, not the script.
- "It's too expensive." — Compared to what? Reframe to cost-per-day vs cost-of-no-solution.
- "I need to think about it." — "Of course — what specifically do you need to think about?"
- "Send me some info." — "Happy to. So I send the right info, what's the one thing you'd need to see?"
- "I need to talk to my partner/spouse." — "Totally — what would you bring to that conversation?"
- "Now's not a good time." — "What would have to be true for now to be the right time?"
- "We're already with [competitor]." — "What do you love about them? What would you change?"
- "Just send a proposal." — "Will do — what would make it a yes when you read it?"
- "Call me back next quarter." — "What changes next quarter that doesn't exist today?"
- "I don't have the budget." — "If budget weren't the issue, would you do this?"
- "I need to talk to my team." — "Smart — what's the question they'll ask first?"
- "I'm not the decision maker." — "Who is, and what do they care about most?"
- "Let me get back to you." — "Of course — when, and what will you know then that you don't now?"
The 3-round sparring routine
Run this 15 minutes a day, every day, with a partner or an AI buyer.
- Round 1 — Single objection. They throw one. You execute the 4-step framework cleanly.
- Round 2 — Stack of three. They chain three objections in a row. You stay calm and isolate the real one.
- Round 3 — Live takeaway. They go cold. You execute a takeaway and re-engage without lowering price.
Frequently asked questions
How is sparring different from roleplay?
Roleplay is usually scripted and friendly. Sparring is unscripted, hostile, and scored — closer to a real call where the prospect is pushing back and you have to think on your feet.
Can I use this without a partner?
Yes. Run the 12 objections against an AI buyer that pushes back. The framework is the same; the AI never gets tired and never goes easy on you.
Which objection should I drill first?
Whichever one ends your deals most often. For most reps that is either "too expensive" or "I need to think about it." Master those two and your close rate moves.
