Why a presence checklist beats willpower

Most reps try to "remember" to be calm. That fails the moment adrenaline hits. A checklist removes the willpower requirement — you run the steps, and the body follows.

Inside ClosersForge, the Presence Checklist appears before every Pitch Practice session. Same checklist works for live calls, in-home appointments, and door-knocks.

The Sales Presence Checklist (7 steps)

1. Sit or stand upright. Spine long, weight balanced.

2. Relax your shoulders. Roll them back and let them drop.

3. Keep your face calm and engaged. Soft smile baseline, jaw unclenched.

4. Place notes near eye level. Stops your eyes from dropping mid-pitch.

5. Slow down your first sentence. Pace anchors the rest of the call.

6. Choose one delivery focus. Posture, eye contact, hands, facial expression, pacing, tone, pauses, energy, confidence, or calm objection handling.

7. Take one breath before starting. In through the nose, out through the mouth.

That's the whole thing. Under 60 seconds.

Why "one delivery focus" is the secret

The instinct is to fix everything at once — and that fixes nothing. Picking one lever per session lets the body actually train it. After 7 sessions you've drilled all 7 focuses individually, and they start showing up automatically together.

This is exactly how elite athletes train: one technical focus per rep, not "do everything well."

How to use the checklist live

  • Cold call. Run steps 1–3 + 7 before you dial.
  • Door-to-door. Run steps 1, 2, 5, 7 between doors.
  • In-home appointment. Full 7 steps in the truck before you walk up.
  • Zoom demo. Full 7 + camera/lighting check.

The one move that beats all 7 if you're rushed

If you only have 5 seconds: one slow breath + drop your shoulders. That alone resets the nervous system.

FAQ

How long should the checklist take?

Under 60 seconds. Anything longer and reps skip it under pressure.

What if I don't have time before a cold call?

Run the 5-second version: one breath + dropped shoulders. Then dial.

Where does the delivery focus get tracked?

Inside ClosersForge, your selected focus is stored with the session and weighted in your Pitch Practice feedback.

Drill the objections from this article

Each one opens an AI sparring drill pre-loaded with the rebuttal — plus the full weak / strong / elite breakdown.

🚪Not interested

"I'm not interested."

Usually said before they understand what you actually do. It's a reflex, not a decision.

🤝Already have someone

"We're locked into a contract."

Contracts have exits, overlap windows, and renewal cliffs — most reps walk away too early.

💍Talk to spouse

"My partner handles all the money decisions."

If they truly can't decide alone, you should've had both on the call. Now you fix it.
