Closer IQ: How to Measure Sales Skill (and Actually Improve It)

6 min readThe ClosersForge Team📜 Sales Scripts Save as PDF

Activity ≠ skill

Reps who only track calls and dials plateau. Reps who track skill keep climbing. Closer IQ is a 0–1000 score across the eight skills that actually decide deals: opening, rapport, discovery, objection handling, closing, follow-up, negotiation, and tone.

How it moves

Every sparring session, every saved rebuttal, every completed lesson nudges the score. Weak skills weigh more — fix the weakest one and your IQ jumps.

What to do with it

  • Below 400: focus on opening and discovery.
  • 400–700: focus on objections and closing.
  • 700+: focus on negotiation and follow-up nuance.

Check your score in the Closer IQ dashboard and let the Skill Tree tell you what to train next.

FAQ

What's the fastest way to apply this in real calls?

Pick one script from this post, run it 10 times in AI roleplay before your next live call, and only then test it on a real prospect. Reps before reality — that's how top closers internalize new moves without losing deals.

How do I know if I'm actually getting better at this?

Track three numbers weekly: sets, closes, and the specific objection that killed deals. If your kill-objection shifts or shrinks, you're improving. The ClosersForge dashboard does this automatically based on your AI sparring sessions.

What if I'm new and the scripts feel awkward?

They will. Awkward is the price of new patterns. Roleplay them out loud 50 times in the gym until they sound like you, not like a script. Then they stop sounding like scripts and start sounding like you with conviction.

Each one opens an AI sparring drill pre-loaded with the rebuttal — plus the full weak / strong / elite breakdown.

🚪Not interested

"I'm not interested."

Usually said before they understand what you actually do. It's a reflex, not a decision.

💍Talk to spouse

"My partner handles all the money decisions."

If they truly can't decide alone, you should've had both on the call. Now you fix it.

💰Too expensive

"Your competitor is way cheaper."

They're shopping price because no one has shown them what they're actually buying.
